Best Part of Waking Up

And if the day doesn't go well, it's the best part of my day. When Liam and Violet come in our room in the morning to wake us up. I always wake up while Liam is opening the door, though he's very quite, I just am in tune to that noise. Liam exclaims "Good Morning Mommy! Violet's awake!" Violet soon follows...usually behind because she was trying to grab a doll or bear out of her bed to bring with her. Liam will give me a kiss and tell me he's loves me so much. I'll say "I love you so much too Liam" which he exclaims "YOU DO?! Oh thank you mommy!". Violet comes in and says "GOOD MORNING MOMMY!" and than she says "Daddy?" and proceeds to look for daddy. If he's in the shower already she goes to put her hands on the shower door, expecting him to place his hands on hers. Once that mission is complete she comes in the bed to give me hugs and kisses and to tickle my face. She'll have a head of fluffy hair and a sweet smile with rosy cheeks. She'll talk a bit to me and soon ask for milk or juice. Liam requests a Boost(it's like Ensure). Then we crawl back in bed and watch cartoons for an hour. It's great. I hope this stage lasts a long time.

Garden Update

I love gardening! One of my tomato plants is blooming, and my strawberry plant has a blossom on it too (Violet picked the last strawberry which was still green at the time). My brother is almost finished with the 'cage' to keep the animals out. A few onions have been pulled by some sort of animal...and no not my kids!

1st Sewing Project

I mentioned before that I am a Laurel Advisor in my Church's (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) Young Women's program. The Young Women have the option of completing something called Personal Progress. The purpose of Young Women Personal Progress is to "help each young woman strengthen her testimony of Jesus Christ, understand her identity as a daughter of God, prepare for her future roles, and prepare to be worthy to make and keep sacred temple covenants. Personal Progress is a tool to assist parents and leaders as they watch over and strengthen each young woman."

As a leader I need to understand the program and help the young women in any way I can. And as a personal goal, as I had not completed my personal progress in my youth, I am also working on completing mine.

SO after that long explanation, here is my first sewing project (on a machine...well 1st one in 17 years). I made a personal progress book holder. I did not come up with this idea. I copied it. The Young Women's president in my ward created them for the Young Women. I wanted one too. So I studied it carefully and then recreated it from memory. Okay so it's not the hardest sewing project...not even close. But I did make a few changes... I used a thicker placemat as the material, I added a lovely lining, and I added a spot to hold a pen. I love looking at this because I machine sewed it myself. Now I'm working on that garden pillow for Violet's birthday..

New Fish

We got three of these fish... Tiger Barbs...I could only get one to take a picture.

Fish

Not long ago we attended a nephew of mine's first birthday party. It was a fishing party and Liam got to go fishing for the first time. He didn't catch anything though...which was disappointing because even his 20 month old cousin caught a fish... and a turtle...

My sister in law had decorated the table with real goldfish on the table tops. She gave us the little goldfish (3 of them) to take home. My brother Connor took them in his car because I had a bad experience once transporting a fish (it died on me). The fish were still alive when he got home but I didn't want to move them in new water until I read up on it. Connor moved them though because he figured keeping them in the old water wasn't good for lack of oxygen. He filled the bowls with tap water. And tap water is bad for fish unless it's been treated to remove crap from it. We also didn't have a pump or filter. Nor did we have food for them. So by morning two fish were dead. One barely alive. David is such a softy he wanted to save the last fish. It looked so sick I thought it was past saving but David couldn't let it die without trying so I went and bought fish supplies...

David wants a crazy awesome tank that we haven't yet budgeted for. So we got 5 gallon tank that is acrylic, that will someday be in one of the kids rooms. We didn't know at the time that smaller tanks are harder to take care of. Also very few fish can thrive in a 5 gallon tank. Most fish need a big tank, so those little fish bowls are way too small and cruel to keep fish in. Anyhow, on my way home David called and said "get another fish, this one died". But it was too late, I was too far away and the store was closing in 15 minutes. We went ahead and set up this tank and even put live plants in it, so by the time we get our new fish it will be easier to transport it to it's new home...more quickly and safely.

Hopefully our next fish will live more than a day.

Forgive me...

For bragging, but I'm so proud of Liam. He is 3 and a half in a few days and today we were going over sight words for 1st graders. He has seen this book once when we first got it. Not only did he know the words, but he read the sentences that they gave to use as examples.

Easter Egg Hunt

Okay I lied, no Rodeo yet... I had downloaded most of the pictures but my computer was/is acting too slow. David's solution? HE will get a NEW computer and I can have his old/new one (that he just built last year). Hmmmm. I told him I could wait a bit longer... I really want furniture in our house! Still, this is why I never have pictures on my blog.

We had a little Easter egg hunt this morning. I had filled eggs last night and as they were playing in the backyard this morning, I thought I could grab a few for fun. We had such a loooonnng day yesterday... sunblock all over Violet, the living room and the kitchen... smeared on door knobs and my bathroom mirror and attempted to be cleaned by Liam as he scrubbed at it with MY toothbrush. Violet brought/spilt vermiculite and peat moss in my living room and on the porch. Everytime I put Violet down for a nap yesterday she started yelling two minutes later because she had a poopy diaper. EVERY TIME. Including bedtime. SO she didn't have a nap all day and constantly threw fits. It was just long. Every activity I tried to start with them, ended in tantrums. As soon as David got home I gave him a kiss and ran out of the door to Young Women's...I am one of the advisors in the Young Women program at my church and they have an activity night once a week. I don't always have to go...especially if David can't get home on time and also because I prepare and teach a Sunday school lesson each week. I digress (as usual).

So I very quickly and sneakily (I just had to look up that word to make sure it was real), hid 8 eggs while they played in the sandbox. Then I told Liam to start looking for eggs, but that he had to share with his sister and cousin. He happily agreed and started looking. Violet found one. And that was it. That was her egg, open it now please. When she saw candy was inside she started jumping up and down and laughing.

Liam did that last year. He found one egg and that was enough. He sure has grown. Now he enjoys trying to find as many eggs as he can.

I saw something cute pertaining to egg hunts... you put a chocolate chicken or duck or bunny out in plain sight. And that means there are Easter eggs to be found, and who ever (or is it whom ever?) finds the most eggs, gets the chocolate chicken/duck/bunny. That makes it a real competition ;) Young children, well that would probably make them sad if they didn't win it, but older kids or adults, that would make it more fun.
