Sew...
I just asked David, via email, if I could buy this sewing machine ... it's on sale. Janome is a reputable brand. I was going to just buy it and not ask...but if he happened to be home when it arrived...I'd have some 'splaining to do. I am thinking he'll say "no, not right now...maybe after my bonus arrives" or "what do you plan on using it for?" Or "will you actually use it".
UPDATE. David's answer was "Ummm, NO, we can't drop $400 on a sewing machine" pffff, like that's a lot for a sewing machine. No. Besides it normally sells for $900.

Darn
Felt the urge to use my sewing machine. My sister Laura had sold me hers about 2 years ago and I have yet to touch it. Partly because I'm intimidated, partly because it isn't brand new so I'm not sure all the parts are there. And I've been dying to sew...quit all this hand sewing crap. Well I try today and the needle keeps falling out. I call Laura and she tells me that there should be a little 'screw' type dealy that unscrews to allow you to change the needle and then screws back to keep said needle in place. This part is missing and I'm 99.9999999999999% sure that Liam has unscrewed it and lost it. I wonder if I take it in to get a 'tune up' if you will...if they will also have replacement parts...maybe I should google it and find a website...
Anyhow, long rambling short: I was sad I didn't get to practice sewing today. I hope I can get it working and that it doesn't take another two years to get that urge to sew again.

Check
Hallway is PAINTED!!! YAY! You know what motivated me? Somebody offering to help me. And not taking NO for an answer. They set up a time to come and everything. SO I painted before that time could arrive, lol.
The problem is, it's a small hallway so we couldn't all fit AND I only have one roller. So I imagined either it being kind of awkward or a big mess or both. But it was so kind of them to offer. Now, how to break it to them... hmm maybe they can tape up my next hallway!
And to check in with my other resolutions/goals... I have still been working out 6 days a week. Though I cheated today! I told David I was gonna work out before he got home (we usually do the workouts together) because I needed to paint and if I waited to work out with him I would just want to go to bed afterwards. Well I was working out and Liam and Violet joined me. I was tripping on them, but they were so cute, and after 30 minutes...with 30 more to go... I thought...well painting the hallway will burn enough calories so I'm just gonna quit now.
I did not plan on telling David I quit early. He caught me anyway :( The stupid DVD, even though I turned the power off, picked right up where I left off. David and my brother were laughing at me...and now David will never trust me to work out on my own (and he probably shouldn't either!).
On another note, I decided not to push the tile in the house right now. Violet fell the other day at Tata and Boos and for an instant I thought she would hit the tile...she hit a highchair instead with her forehead...hmm is that how you spell forehead? I'm so tired and it looks wrong. Oh well. It is 2:30 in the a.m. (that posting time is WRONG) ANYHOW. I thought, shoot...if she would have hit the tile, that would have been terrible. Ironically David started researching tile...I wonder if I would have got my way...OR did he just start looking into because I said 'nevermind'? Men, well at least my man...likes these big decisions to be their or HIS idea. I don't think David realizes this about himself, and he definitely doesn't know that I KNOW IT. Well I am the neck and I do turn the head... man I'm tired. Hope this post made sense.

Venture to Start a Square Foot Garden
I just started to learn about square foot gardening because on February 9th our Relief Society is having a Master Gardener teach us about it. So I began to research the subject and I am getting very excited about it. The Master Gardeners wife told us that the other night she made Cauliflower soup with homegrown cauliflower, carrots, celery and parsley. I love homegrown food.
You might say I have odd little dreams to become more old fashioned :) I want to learn to play the Pianoforte, have monthly picnics in the garden, learn how to better crochet, have a garden where I grow almost all the fruits and veggies we consume, own a little cottage in the Mountains where we would summer, have tea parties etc. Whatever quaint little thing comes to mind. No doubt these ideas have come from my love of Jane Austen's writings. But also because I can't stand drama...especially drama built up from nothing more then one could learn from and move on. Though I am guilty of this I'm sure. But the more simple I make my life, the more peaceful I am.
SO my square foot garden...let's see if my brother Connor will help me set it up. I know he will.

Saturday Adventures
We took the kids out for lunch at a Red River BBQ. Liam was enjoying the Country music and asked me to dance with him. I danced a little in my chair, then Violet and Liam followed suite. THEN Liam was really feeling the music, so he got up and started dancing around the place. He is so much fun!
After lunch we took them to Target and bought Violet a few pants and we also bought Playdoh, and construction paper (Liam has been asking to make Valentines hearts for daddy and mommy). When we came home and all of us, including David, spent about an hour and a half playing with playdoh. Violet was cracking me up now. She would climb across the table and take your playdoh. All the while making eye contact with you and saying "thank you, thank you, thank you" as she backed into her chair. David said he's going to try that tactic next time he cuts in line somewhere. She also kept sneaking little tastes of playdoh and saying yummmmmm!
After playdoh I turned on some music and we danced around in the living room. It was such a fun day.

So Much To Do, So Little Money!
I've mentioned before that I have tons and tons of projects on my mind. The only thing stopping me? I can't spend all that money! I need to budget for these projects so David doesn't get too upset, he works very hard and we have lots of bills to pay off. And secondly I need to make a list and when I commit to one, it needs to get finished! And thirdly, I need the time to get them done! Okay it's about more then just the money.
SOME of the projects:
1) Finish painting the hallway (this is a 'resolution' goal along with other room painting projects) and put up more family pictures and a small refurbished 'desk' to fit by the window...which includes finding and refurbishing said desk.
2) Along with painting the house projects I want to not only paint the dining room, but do a cool wall mural using a brown Gouache... the mural to be realistic tree trunks, just using lines...no other color or shading... I think, this is just in my head... need to create a sketch first.
3) Repair/repaint the small kitchen table... I want to put waterproof tile tattoos on top, paint the brown and white parts of the wood black and regrout (is that the word?) inbetween the tiles. And refinish the chairs and buy/or make cushions for them. I really need to get a sewing machine I can work.
4) Make Violet's garden pillow... I bought the brown corduroy for it! Just need the pillow that will be used and to create a pattern for the veggies...and stuffing.
5) My backyard! Put the landscaping plan in motion...while it's still cool outside!
6) Quietbook that I've been working slowly on for months... need to start up again or it will be for my grandkids.
7) Christmas projects... gifts (want to make them all this year...yeah right)just drawings on small pieces of clayboard that fit the style of the recipient. advent tree wall calendar that I want to sew, christmas village that I want to crochet.

9) Convince David to put tile in our house :)
10) Make healthy Easter Baskets for the kids for Easter... press flowers for bookmarks? Crochet egg covers...wait I'm not that good. I do want collapsible garden bucket, seeds for them to plant, books, stickers, choc covered nuts, yogurt covered rasins...I have a list somewhere.
11) Crochet dish towels
12) Do some illustrations for Janice (Sorry Janice!)
13) make a play village for Violet's play hamsters/mushroom house.

Family Portrait
Liam drew this back in November. I love it, he drew all of us and knew who was supposed to be who.
Wut-Oh
Today was 'warm' enough for the kids to play outside. While outside I noticed that our backyard grass is all dead. It's like hay. What do the lawn mowing guys mow exactly? Because it's not growing.
I have a brilliant landscaping plan for my backyard...and it does not involve grass. SO we all know landscaping costs a ton. I thought, how much cheaper to just do it myself and grow the bushes I want from seed? Hahaha. Nevermind the costs of the extra dirt I'll probably need, the gravel, the rocks, the possible flagstone, the trees, the potted plants.. And I know it will be a ton of work and might look horrible... but can it look worse then hay? So I get out a culitvator and start 'raking' up the hay. Now I have a huge section of muddy hay. Good thing David probably won't ever notice what I am doing back there. He is always working and on weekends he spends time playing with the kids inside the house and time playing computer games...not working in the backyard. Good thing he doesn't read this blog either!

Maybe When He's 10
That's when I'm hoping Liam becomes potty trained. Because I'm fixin' to give up and let him just do it when he's ready...which will probably be 10, and only because he'll start to feel embarrassed that his mother has to wipe his butt.
I was excited because I ordered a potty chart with stickers. It arrived yesterday after the kids had gone to bed. I was excited to spend today going over the chart and explaining the stickers. This morning when I woke up, Liam had found the books... I mean what? Does he wake up and think...let me search these counter tops for possible things that may have arrived while I was sleeping??? Is that what happens? Because when I woke up he had ripped the chart up and put the stickers all over the coffee table. And I just broke down and cried.

Love this Deep Cleaner Wet Vac

If you are in the market for a portable deep cleaner, I recommend this one. I love it! It got a stain out that was here when we moved in...and this house was in great shape...so I'm gonna assume the owners tried to get the stain out. Heck WE tried to get the stain out. I tried it with this machine, it came out completely in one or two minutes of using the cleaner, vac and scrubbing brush. I've cleaned the couches, car, jelly stains, chocolate stains and mystery stains so far.
Of course the carpets are full of stains...it's impossible to tackle them all. YES, it's THAT bad. I keep begging David to use his bonus this year on putting stone tile all over the house. He would like to, but doesn't want to spend that kind of money... that's the real reason. The reason he gives me is, our next baby won't learn to crawl because the ground will be too hard, and that we need furniture in our house first (we are planning on buying a dining room table/chairs with part of the bonus...unless I can talk him into the tile). My hesitation is that falling down might be more dangerous for the kids... anyone grow up in a house with stone tile?

Lee Lee
Lee Lee is a nick name I call Liam sometimes. It might be confusing for both kids because my mom-in-law nicknamed Violet, Lily...but with her accent it sounds like Lee Lee.
Today Liam, Violet and I were laying down in the dining room next to the Castle. Liam had brought out pillows and blankets. Then he asked me to tell a story. I made up a story...I was actually trying to recall the story from the book: From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler and I just made the kids Liam and Violet.
Meanwhile, there is a keyboard and some extra computer equipment laying next to Liam. While I am telling this story, Liam sits up and starts typing the story I am telling out on the computer. Obviously not actually typing it, but pretending to. And when I finished telling the story, he stopped and layed back down. Then sang a song to Violet... I think it was "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".
Later that night, he had some wooden alphabet letters that go to a puzzle all around on his bed. I asked him to move them so I could sit down to read him his story. He starts scooping the letters towards himself while saying "come to papa, come to papa!" I'm pretty sure he got that from Mr. Krabs on Spongebob Squarepants...which he watched a LOT of while he was sick these past few weeks.
And yesterday we were sitting down to eat lunch and he said "Mom, we need to say a prayer for the food" and he folded his arms and closed his eyes and waited. It was a very sweet moment.

2010 Update
Already you say! I am following suite from a friend of mine... Lindsay!
I didn't get to finish painting the hallway this weekend :( Will try for next weekend or sometime this week.
I HAVE been working out 6 days a week! I've lost 4 lbs. so far. I won't measure inches until the end of the program. It was supposed to be one day of stretching, but David said it will be a day off for us.
Also another friend of mine mentioned that she wanted to save a certain dollar amount by the end of the year. I am making the same resolution. I won't say how much, but all I have to do is put the extra money from David's raise straight into savings each paycheck and we'll hit the mark. AND after we pay off the credit card...which we used for our vacation and Christmas... once that is paid off (in March)I'll put the extra money I would have been putting towards that into savings, and that should cover this next Christmas...which will hopefully include a trip for our family to spend Christmas 2010 in Utah with 3 of my 4 sisters! I'm excited about that prospect. I don't think David is, because it would mean missing the Christmas LAN party... Of course unexpected expenses can occur throughout the year...and if things go according to plan I will be nearly 8 months pregnant by then...hmmmm. It might not work out... Maybe we can make it Thanksgiving instead and do a mini Christmas... We'll see, we'll see.
